Adults at Second Church are offered a range of programs throughout the year that provide fellowship, instruction and nurturing in our spiritual formation and daily application for living in God's presence. Programs are offered by our pastor, lay leaders and guest presenters.
Weekly Women's Bible study
Our WBS group enjoys sharing family news and studying God's word. At each meeting, we enjoy plentiful food and lively discussion. WBS meets every Wednesday morning from 9:30 until 11:30 in each other's homes. Please check the church Bulletin or E-News or contact the church office to find the location for any particular week.
Small Group and Mission Opportunities for Adults
The following groups/ministries welcome you to experience the joy of giving to others. Please contact the church office for more information.
Bread and Roses
Bread & Roses is a soup kitchen in Lawrence, MA with a strong and rich tradition of being a center of hope and caring to the thousands of people in the Merrimack Valley who are struggling for survival. We are proud to be able to prepare and offer food for this local organization.
We are charmed by their chimes - and so grateful for their talents! Our Bell Ringers, under the direction of our Music Director, fill our sanctuary several times a year with the unique melody only heard from the bells.
Caregivers is a small and informal group who gather to offer support, encouragement and suggestions to one another as we face the many challenges of caring for our aging parents. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month in the church library at 7pm.
We love to sing and we love to hear our choir sing! Our choir members vary in experience and age but all enjoy singing God's praises. The choir rehearses every Thurs. night @ 7:30pm in the sanctuary to prepare for the Sunday morning worship service. We also invite our youth to join our Youth Choir.
Reporting to the Church Council for oversight, we strive to promote our church identity and professional presence in our community. Communication Guidelines have been established for improved security, sensitivity, ethics, legal issues and media uniformity. Working closely with the church Communications Director, this committee oversees our many church publications, audio system, computer system, website, and photography.
This active committee coordinates the decorating of our church with weekly fresh flowers for our alter/piano. Decorations for our church holidays for both indoors and outdoors are thankfully organized by this group. Weekly "alter flowers" signup is always welcome as well as joining the committee to share your artistic decorating talents.
Our church loves to eat! This committee provides exciting and plentiful refreshments for Fellowship Hour each week. Additionally, this generous group coordinates the food and beverage for many special church events as well as receptions and funerals.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Our church Pastor along with our congregation offers a special blessing for the Prayer Shawls given to those in time of crisis or healing. Our dedicated knitters have a flexible meeting schedule and continue to keep our supply closet filled.
The ushers have responsibilities to prepare the sanctuary for the Sunday service, welcome members/friends while offering a worship bulletin and participate in the service itself (lighting the candles) and to pick up the sanctuary following the service.
